Will MySpace's "Discovery" be Discovered?

TechCrunch recently reported that MySpace executives have developed a new product strategy in an attempt to get users to do something different on MySpace that they can't do on Facebook.

The strategy is "Discover and be Discovered" and the overall thought is that people will want to visit MySpace over and over again.

Not sure how effective this strategy will be and whether it is too little too late? It is obviously an answer to Facebook's dominance and the loss of users of MySpace.

Do you think it will work? Read the article here.

Google reports that MySpace will now show in Real Time Search Results.

Google recently reported that they will be reporting MySpace results in real time search. Here is the excerpt from Google:

Also in real-time news, starting this week we officially added MySpace content to real-time search. Now you can tap into the pool of news, photos and blog posts that MySpace users have chosen to publish to the world. These updates are all ranked to reflect the most relevant, freshest results, many of which are just seconds old. In all, real-time search includes more than a billion documents and processes hundreds of millions of changes daily. We're quite excited to offer this enhancement so that real-time search becomes even more useful. You can find the MySpace updates in our real-time mode by clicking on "Show Options" and then "Updates."

Now that Google is incorporating MySpace in real time search results, how soon do you think Bing/Yahoo will follow suit?

Micro-hoo Deal gets over one hurdle.

Yesterday, it was announced that Microsoft and Yahoo received approval from both the US government and European Commission regarding their search deal announced last summer.

Now the search technologies, businesses, etc need to merge and actually work. Yahoo! organic rankings will become part of Bing and the paid search will be adCenter.

With all of the issues that need to be ironed, does anyone out there think that this merger will be completed by the self imposed plan, which is by the 2010 holiday season?
